Self Portrait

A couple weekends ago I decided to take up a self portrait challenge that was laid on the table by DPS.At first I thought this was going to be a piece of cake for me. I mean, how hard could it be, right? All I have to do set up my tripod, set the self timer and start snapping away.

Turns out it was a lot harder than I thought. They recommended finding something that I enjoyed doing, maybe a hobby to give me ideas for a setting for my picture. "Ah, ha," I thought. "My favorite thing to do is sleep. I"ll take pictures of myself sleeping. My first attempt looked more like a picture one of my kids or my husband might have snapped.

So I decided that I needed to be doing something in the photo, but instead of looking like a yawn it looks more like I'm about to vomit which is definitely not something I like to do, nor do I make a habit of doing it.

Enough of the bedroom pictures. What else could I take a self portrait of me doing? I ventured into the bathroom where I took some bathtub shots. Unfortunately there is only one of these I can show you.

Still not my favorite but getting closer. Yesterday I tried to rig my tripod to the swing in my front yard. I should have taken a picture of the rigging. It was pretty funny. Because I don't have a remote shutter I was unable to figure out how to set the camera to take a picture, climb safely back down the ladder, push it out of the way, climb up on my swing and get it moving all in the 10 seconds the self timer gives me. I hope its needless to say that I didn't get that picture.

Tonight I gave it one last try. As a mom one of the things that I do one a regular basis is laundry. I can't say it's one of my favorite things, but I would say that it does define me in a very small way. So, to make a long, boring blog a little shorter. Here's my favorite self portrait of the challenge.

I am glad that you stuck with the idea. I like to see that you really have some fun trying to come up with an original idea.
