Answer to a friend

I don't know why Christians want everyone to be just like them. It's something I've struggled with since I was a teenager. We are all in different places in our relationships with God and it's between Him and us, individually. What is God asking you to do?

Recently I saw a movie called "Henry Poole is Here," about a man dying from some unknown disease. His neighbor is a very religious catholic woman who swears the face of Jesus has appeared on the side of his wall and that it can heal people. She is very insistent about it. He asks her why it is so important to her that he believe the same way she does. Before she can answer he says,

"Because if you can convince me then suddenly your beliefs become more real. Right? The more people you can get to jump on your (insert your own issue here )train, the more your mission's made. So until you get me to swallow your world and believe what you believe you'll never have the kind of faith you want to have. You'll always have a little bit of doubt. You'll never know if you're quite right. You'll always kind of be wondering if it's real."

Why do Christians think everyone has to be just like them? If they can make someone else believe what they believe than that belief is validated. They are no longer alone in their beliefs. In their own hearts they are now justified.

God's word says that Jesus came to give us freedom and abundant life. Are you experiencing that? Are you living in Christ's freedom when you choose to light up? Are you living the abundant life He came to give you? What does an abundant life look like to you?
