My hero

I discovered this week who my hero is.

Eric's grandma went to be with her savior last weekend. We praise God that He spared her so much pain and anguish, and yet we miss her and want her here with us. Grandma Chris was an amazing woman.

Grandma Chris was many things to many people, but the resounding theme we have heard from everyone is that she was a woman who loved God and loved people. She was a woman who knew the adventures that God had put her in and rose to each challenge that came her way with grace, wisdom, and hospitality.

I wish I had known her better. She taught me to love my husband and to respect him. She taught me to cherish my children and to never be surprised by anything they do. She taught me the best way to serve a buffet and to always put my best foot forward. She demonstrated grace, beauty, humility, and hospitality. My father-in-law said the smell that most reminds him of Grandma is the smell of cinnamon. She was always baking something yummy. She always had a smile and a hug and a kind word.

Grandma lived a life full of adventure. She was always up for world travel and had visited just about every continent on our earth. She raised 6 kids and loved a party. She wove her adventuresome spirit into everything she was a part of. Most of all, Grandma loved Jesus and lived by his words. She told us often that she was praying for us and she meant it. She loved missions and was a wonderfully generous person.

I know that my short tribute here does not do justice to the woman I miss and look up to and want to model myself after. I may never be able to do her that kind of justice, but I am thankful to our God that I did have a chance before she left us to tell her how much I love her and how much she has taught me. I know that her beautiful spirit has been handed down to my youngest daughter. Scotlynn looks so much like Grandma, red hair and all, but she also has the same temperment and joy that I saw in Grandma.

So Grandma, here's a glass raised to you, you lived a life full of love and full of grace and full of adventure. May I embrace the legacy you leave behind and pass it down to my loved ones. Till we meet again on the streets of gold, I love you. You are my hero!
